Mati Carbon’s mission is to drive climate adaption and resilience for 100 million smallholder farmers across the Global South. Using Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) – the application of finely crushed basalt to croplands – Mati accelerates nature’s own process, converting atmospheric CO₂ into bicarbonates that lock away carbon for thousands of years, while increasing yields and improving soil fertility.

The platform integrates science, data, and farmer services so that every treated acre becomes more fertile and productive. With first-degree farmer relationships and deep field presence, Mati carries out vertified carbon removal while improving farmer incomes, creating healthier ecosystems, and enabling transitions toward regenerative practices.

Winner of the Grand Prize of the 2025 XPRIZE for Carbon Removal, Mati has already deployed ERW across India, Zambia, and Tanzania, applying 200,000 tonnes of basalt dust and supporting over 20,000 farmers. Results include yield gains of 20% and $4.5M in additional farmer income annually, alongside durable, verifiable carbon removal. With a robust MRV framework developed with Yale University, University of Sheffield and IIT Kanpur, and support from partners including the Schmidt Foundation and J.P. Morgan, Mati is positioned to scale rapidly across the Global South.
